Kaimu New Black Sand Beach (Kalapana)
19° 21.5′ N · 154° 58.0′ W
A young black-sand beach reached by a short eco-path across the 1990 flow that buried Kalapana, Kaimu Bay and its famous palm-lined beach under 50 to 75 ft of lava.
Practical
Coordinate from to-hawaii's map. Drive to the end of Highway 130 or 137 and park near the Kalapana village cafe; the walk is 5 to 10 minutes over lava where residents have planted coconut palms. Not a swimming beach in surf.
Best for
Walking on brand-new land
