Kahana Roadstead
20° 58.5′ N · 156° 41.3′ W · approximate
The open coast off Kahana village, between Honokowai and Napili, a settled-weather daytime stop with the Kahana and Napili shops and restaurants within walking distance of the beach.
Practical
Coordinate is approx: placed about 0.45 nm offshore of Kahana village, deliberately outside the breakers that the Coast Pilot says extend 0.2 mile offshore for 1.5 miles south of Napili Bay, a zone that takes in the Kahana shore. No published depth or holding data; sound in and anchor on sand only. North currents are reported off this coast (Coast Pilot). Fully open to kona weather and to winter north-west swell, which breaks across the inshore reef; this is a summer, trade-wind daytime stop, not an overnight anchorage. Land the dinghy only where the beach is not breaking. Ashore: Whalers General Store, Hawaiian Village Coffee and a Shell station are at Kahana (OSM, not separately verified); Napili Market is about a mile north.
