Honokowai Roadstead

20° 57.4′ N · 156° 41.7′ W · approximate

The open, little-used roadstead off Honokowai, between the north end of Kaanapali and Kahana, where a boat can lie off the low bluffs and condo-lined shore within reach of the Honokowai food shops and Times market.

Practical

Coordinate is approx: placed about 0.45 nm west of Honokowai Beach Park (OSM). This stretch is part of the Kekaa Point to Lipoa Point coast of low bluffs and short sand beaches (Coast Pilot); no published anchorage, depth or holding data was found, so treat it as an open roadstead and sound in, anchoring only on sand off the fringing reef. DOBOR's Kaanapali area, which serves this coast, has undesignated offshore moorings for private sailing vessels; contact DOBOR (808) 587-1966 or the Maui District (808) 243-5824 before using any mooring. A northward current is reported off Kekaa Point and off Napili Bay (Coast Pilot), so expect a north set. Exposed to kona weather, south swell and, in winter, wrapping north-west swell. No dock: land on the beach at Honokowai Beach Park in calm conditions only. Groceries (Times Honokowai), Honokowai Okazuya, Fish Market Maui and Pau Bakery are a short walk from the beach park.
