The original 140.6-mile triathlon: a swim in Kailua Bay, a bike ride across the lava of the Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway and a run to the finish on Ali'i Drive. The next Kona race is October 9, 2027.
Practical
Coordinate is Kailua Pier (OpenStreetMap), the heart of race week. Ironman's race page (checked October 2026) lists the Salomon IRONMAN World Championship for October 9, 2027 in Kailua-Kona, entry by qualification only; the 2026 edition was also raced in Kona in October 2026. Expect Kailua Bay to be closed for the swim on race morning and swim-training traffic all week; anchoring off the pier will be crowded or restricted, so arrange a Honokohau berth or anchor elsewhere. Accommodation, rental cars and restaurants are booked solid that week. Ironman's 'Live Aloha' rules ask athletes not to ride south of Kona town.
