Hawaii Department of Agriculture Vessel Arrival Inspection
21° 18.2′ N · 157° 51.7′ W · approximate
Hawaii's own biosecurity check for boats, required even for US yachts arriving from the mainland, to keep invasive pests, plants and foreign garbage out of the islands.
Practical
No fixed dock; inspectors deal with the vessel where it arrives (position shown is downtown Honolulu, approx). Noodle's Notes (Nov 2024): vessels arriving from another US state must check in with the Hawaii Department of Agriculture at (808) 832-0566. Plant Quarantine Branch general line (808) 973-9560 (HDOA site, now dab.hawaii.gov). Foreign garbage: a June 2018 Noonsite report from Ko Olina says garbage deemed foreign had to be removed by a contractor at about $150 plus $90 per bag of up to 20 lb (verify locally), and that only clean beverage containers were exempt, so arrive with as little galley waste as possible. Pets fall under Hawaii's animal quarantine rules.
