Haleiwa Small Boat Harbor
21° 35.6′ N · 158° 6.3′ W
The only harbor on Oahu's North Shore, a breakwater-protected state basin at the head of Waialua Bay next to old Haleiwa town, home to the shark-tour, fishing and dive boats.
Practical
66-105 Haleiwa Rd, Haleiwa; harbor office 808-637-8246 (fax 808-637-8247), haleiwa.harbor@hawaii.gov; DOBOR division office 808-587-1966; DLNR enforcement 808-643-3567. DOBOR's harbor page (2026) lists 96 berths, 23 'Tahiti tie' moorings, temporary moorings, 3 launch ramps, 2 loading docks, a fish hoist, 22 dryland storage spaces, vessel washdowns and restrooms; Coast Pilot 10 (2026) gives the older figure of 64 slips and 24 moorings for vessels up to 50 ft, with water at most slips. FUEL: neither the DOBOR facility list nor Coast Pilot 10 lists fuel or a pumpout at Haleiwa (compare Heeia Kea, where the Coast Pilot lists gasoline and diesel at the fuel pier). Plan to arrive with fuel in hand, or jerry-can gasoline/diesel from a road station in town, and confirm with the harbor office before counting on any delivery; the nearest charted marine fuel pier on the north and windward coasts is Heeia Kea Small Boat Harbor in Kaneohe Bay, and Waianae Harbor on the west side also lists no fuel in the Coast Pilot. Approach: lighted and unlighted buoys, breakwater lights and a 128.9 degree lighted range lead into the basin; the harbor can be entered in all but the most violent storms, when the Coast Pilot suggests anchoring about 1 mile offshore in 20-30 fathoms; night entry not recommended without local knowledge; stay at least 1 mile off the reef-fringed north coast. American Sailing: anchor outside the harbor or tie up temporarily at the visitor dock if there is room, so call ahead. The Anahulu River bridge at the south-west corner of Waialua Bay has 8 ft clearance. Waialua Bay (Haleiwa Harbor) is a fishery management area under HRS 188-35. Haleiwa town (restaurants, Malama Market, Matsumoto Shave Ice) is a short walk across the Rainbow Bridge. NOAA tide station Haleiwa, Waialua Bay (1612668).
