Sami Harbour
38° 15.1′ N · 20° 38.8′ E
Kefalonia's main east-coast ferry port at the head of a deep bay below Mount Ainos — the base for Melissani, Drogarati and Antisamos, and the island's best all-round shelter in the fishing harbour.
Practical
Coordinate is the SailingIssues harbour waypoint "Sami" (N38°15.136' E20°38.752'); Sea-Seek (38°15.21'N 20°38.88'E) and MarinaTips (38.2533, 20.6481) agree within 250 m. MarinaTips gives depths: N quay behind the ferry mole 4–5 m alongside, W mole 2–3.5 m stern-to, S quay 3.5–5 m; only strong W–NW winds send heavy swell in. Main port: NW–N wind and rebound waves get in; the T-pier is on arches and lets swell into the inner basin; parts too shallow for larger monohulls. Harbourmaster usually allocates the T-pier; the promenade is for local boats. Good holding in mud. Fishing harbour (Sami marina — not Cosmos marina): all-round shelter, often room stern-to or rafted on the east and north breakwaters; mooring lines, electricity and water (contact Mr Stamatis, +30 697 655 8497 per SailingIssues — verify). Ferries to Ithaca and Patras.
