Pera Pigadi (Arethusa Spring)

38° 19.8′ N · 20° 44.6′ E

Three small beaches and a sheltered gap behind the islet of Pera Pigadi (Agios Ilias) on Ithaca's southeast coast — the landing for the walk up to the Arethusa spring and Raven's Rock of the Odyssey.

Practical

Position is the middle (longer) beach. North cove (confined) 38.33118, 20.74386; south beach 38.32776, 20.74523 — take a line to the rocks just north. On the islet itself is a minute harbour: stern-to or alongside the stubby 13 m mole or 28 m quay, mud and weed, too shallow alongside for larger monohulls, and a lee shore in WNW katabatic gusts. Rats on the islet were eradicated using a semi-feral cat — visitors bring cat food and water.
