36° 37.0′ N · 27° 50.3′ E · approximate

Symi is a Greek port of entry and a favourite place to clear out of Greece (and the EU) before crossing to Bozburun or Datça, only a few miles away in Turkey.

Practical

Position approx: on the Gialos waterfront; Grecosailor mentions the customs dock at the end of the harbour. Ask the harbour master for the exact office. Noonsite lists Simi as a port of entry and calls it 'a useful place to check out of Greece (and the EU) if heading to Turkey'. Port Authority on VHF 12; Grecosailor tel +30 22460 71205. Turkish visitors arriving in large numbers have made the harbour very busy in summer. Bring passports, ship's papers, insurance, crew list, Transit Log (e-TL) and TEPAI proof (see area file). Sailing Issues describes the formal procedure: customs and passport control, then the port police exit authorisation, then raise the Turkish flag only once in Turkish waters and report at once to a Turkish port of entry.
