Skopelos Town Harbour
39° 7.4′ N · 23° 43.9′ E
An amphitheatre of white houses, slate roofs and some 120 churches climbing above a wide north-facing bay — the island's capital and the busiest yacht harbour in the Sporades after Skiathos.
Practical
Stern-to along the long breakwater (about 80 berths, MarinaTips). Harbour office VHF 12; port station tel. 2424022180 (skopelos.com). Sailing Issues' berth plan: C–D (54 m) for yachts up to 12 m, D–E (100 m) up to 15 m, B–C (174 m) for rafting long yachts; avoid the first third of the mole and berths nearest the green light, where ferry and hydrofoil swell around the red buoy does damage — moor as far into the basin as possible. Holding is good but the bay is shallow; keep well off the quay with a well-dug-in anchor. Protection is poor in N–NE winds: in a meltemi yachts roll, and in strong NE seas entering and leaving can be dangerous (ferries then divert to Agnontas). Reefs lie north of the port. Few water/electricity points; chips sold at the kiosk. No showers; MarinaTips lists a laundry. Call ahead in Jun–Sep. Music in the port runs until about 11pm. Fees: verify locally.
Best for
Provisioning, churches and the Kastro walk
Season
Jun–Sep busy; avoid in strong N–NE
