Skala Eressou (Lesvos)

39° 8.0′ N · 25° 55.9′ E

A long, golden Blue Flag beach below the village where Sappho was born, lined with tavernas and laid-back beach bars — arguably the most beautiful sandy beach on the island.

Practical

Coordinate is the anchorage south of the village (Grecosailor): soft sand throughout, 3 m about 200 m off the beach, no swell for that crew, easy dinghy landing. Further west, club buoys restrict the main beach area; crews anchor west of them on sand in about 7 m, 300 m off, where a 20-knot meltemi was manageable but gusts increase westward. No quay — anchor only (yachting.com). Skala Eresou South Bay (39.1255, 25.9440) gives shelter from winds with an easterly component in 3–4 m sand. Eresos village is 4 km inland, with its archaeological collection; Eresos kasseri cheese is a PDO product.

Best for

Beach-bar evenings and swimming off a huge sand beach

Season

Jun–Sep; can be gusty in strong meltemi
