Meltemi Season (Patmos–Lipsi–Arki)
37° 19.5′ N · 26° 34.2′ E · approximate
The summer northerly (meltemi) that funnels down the eastern Aegean, gusting off Patmos' hills and stirring short seas in the channels between Patmos, Lipsi, Arki and Leros.
Practical
Coordinate is Patmos island centre (approximate, OSM). Mostly June–September, peaking July–August; typically force 4–5 by day, with spells of force 5–7 that can last several days; builds in the early afternoon and usually eases around sunset (Sailing Issues). Skala gets strong NW–N gusts and cross-winds when docking; Grikos and Stavros get katabatic gusts. Sailing Issues advises sailing early or late in the season, arriving in port before noon, and leaving Psili Ammos and Agathonisi's Ag Georgios out of the plan in stronger winds. East-coast bays tucked under the Turkish promontories are usually the calmest.
