Lagkada Harbour (Chios)

38° 28.6′ N · 26° 7.5′ E

A picturesque little harbour at the mouth of a fertile gorge, its waterfront lined for hundreds of metres with fish tavernas — a favourite Saturday-night run for Turkish boats from Çeşme and the water-taxi base for Oinousses.

Practical

Quay draught about 3.5 m, room for only a few boats (Grecosailor). Reports on shelter differ: Grecosailor found it nearly calm in strong westerlies; CruisersWiki says 'not very good with the meltemi'. Expect it full on Saturday nights. Small store in the centre of the harbour with good supplies, open Sundays from about 9:30am; bakery one street behind; mobile vegetable and fish vans on weekdays. In July and August live Greek music in the village centre on Saturday nights from 11pm. Locals swim from the south side, reached via a footbridge over the river (greektravel). Water taxis to Oinousses (CruisersWiki).

Best for

Fish dinner and a jumping-off point for Oinousses

Season

Best May–Oct; crowded Saturday nights
