Kolona Harbour (Rhodes)
36° 26.7′ N · 28° 13.8′ E
The middle of Rhodes town's three harbours (also called Emborio or Emporiko), under the crenellated sea walls of the Old Town. The west quay takes superyachts, and when there is room smaller yachts can berth or anchor off the little beach in the south of the basin.
Practical
Quay on the west side, opposite the cruise ships, is aimed at 20–45 m yachts. Smaller yachts are accepted when there is space, booked through one of the Mandraki agencies (Sailing Issues). mySea counts about 20 stern-to berths and says mega-yachts should book through an agency before arriving. Shelter in SE–W–NNW winds; it helps to be tucked between big yachts. Northerly swell and cruise-ship surge can make it uncomfortable. Large waves in N–ENE winds: Sailing Issues reports 1.5 m in a Force 8 northerly. Tugs and ferries use the northern section. Anchoring off the beach at the south end of Emboriko, over sand and weed, needs Harbour Office permission (VHF 12). Expect cruise-ship wash, keep clear of manoeuvring tugs, and leave in strong northerlies. The third and biggest port, Akandia (cargo and ferries), is off limits to yachts.
Best for
Superyacht berths and a fallback anchorage under the Old Town walls
Season
Usable in settled weather; uncomfortable in northerlies
