Kokkinokastro Bay (Alonissos)
39° 9.8′ N · 23° 54.3′ E
A red-cliffed, picture-perfect bay at the Cape of the Red Castle, with superb snorkelling and the remains of walls about 3 m high, probably of ancient Ikos.
Practical
Approach from the east. Very well protected from WSW through N to ESE; open to southerlies, though Kokkinonisi islet helps. Garmin shows a non-existent islet NW of Kokkinonisi. Room for about 4 yachts or a few catamarans; solid holding in 4–6 m on sand, posidonia and small boulders. Basic beach bar. Dinghy round to the enclosed beach at the head of the cape. Sailing Issues rates it a must-see and worth an overnight if the forecast allows.
