Chora Walk & Viewpoint (Patmos)
37° 18.5′ N · 26° 32.9′ E
The old cobbled footpath from Skala climbs to the Cave of the Apocalypse and on to Chora, a UNESCO-listed maze of whitewashed lanes, captains' mansions and chapels with views over half the Dodecanese.
Practical
Part of the network of cultural paths marked by the Hellenic Society for the Environment and Culture; continue past Chora to the three restored windmills, which now house an agricultural museum (Greeka). Wikivoyage recommends walking in the cooler months — the island is very hilly — and suggests the quiet spot behind the monastery and the road from Skala to Kambos for sunset views. Buses run about hourly between Skala and Chora if you want to ride up and walk down. Carry water; start early in summer.
Best for
Half-day walk ashore from Skala
