Anchorage· Agathonisi· Greece — Dodecanese, Sporades & North Aegean

Agios Georgios Harbour (Agathonisi)

37° 27.4′ N · 26° 58.0′ E

The only real harbour on Agathonisi, the northernmost Dodecanese island — authentic, untouristy and fully protected from the meltemi.

Practical

Untenable in strong S–SE winds; prolonged SE brings a nasty swell. Three free options (Sailing Issues): north quay (premium, about 10 yachts, too shallow for most keelboats to use a passerelle — lie 4–6 m off with a long stern line, two hawsers, dinghy shuttle); NW-corner anchorage north of the ferry quay in 5–7 m on mostly sand (excellent holding, room for 2–3, leave room for the ferry, line ashore advised); ferry quay (4 yachts alongside, you may be asked to move about 15 minutes before a ferry; overnight after the last ferry). Both ferries can push you toward the quay. Water and electricity on the quays — buy a €10 card at Voula's Gift Shop (price undated in the source; verify locally). Diesel by jerry can; toilets and showers. Grecosailor: about 2.5 m, ferry turning circle closely monitored; port tel +30 22470 31231.

Best for

Overnight on the frontier island

Season
