From June to September the meltemi sweeps the Small Cyclades from the north-east, setting the rhythm of every passage and every overnight choice between Naxos and Amorgos.

Sailingissues: the meltemi storms blow here from the north-east. George Yachts: strongest mid-July to mid-August, around Force 5-7 and gusting higher in open water; May, June and September are calmer. Plan legs for the early-morning calm and overnight in the lee: Koufonisi harbour, Pori in moderate northerlies, Fanos, Alimia (Iraklia), Mersini (Schinoussa), Kalotaritissa/Roussa (Donoussa), Katapola, Aegiali, Kalotyri and Mouros (Amorgos). Position is approx: a representative point off Pano Koufonisi.
