Serifos Chora & Kastro

37° 9.3′ N · 24° 30.4′ E

A medieval fortified Chora spilling down a rocky peak about 5 km above Livadi. The ruins of the 1434 Venetian castle and the chapel of Agios Konstantinos at the summit look out over Sifnos, Kythnos, Milos and Kimolos.

Practical

e-serifos: the castle was built in 1434 by the Michieli family. Two loggia gateways survive, one with a Venetian coat of arms. The windmill square (three restored mills) has a mini market, bakery and bars that stay busy late. The Folklore Museum and the Archaeological Museum are in Kato Chora. Get there by the frequent bus from Livadi (Wikivoyage) or the stone path (see Chora Stone Path). The island clinic is in Chora (+30 22810 51202). Best at sunset, but leave enough light for the path down or take the bus.
