Ormos Isternia (Tinos)

37° 36.9′ N · 25° 2.4′ E

Isternia bay on the SW coast of Tinos, its beach locally called 'the diamond', below the marble-sculptors' village of Ysternia.

Practical

SailingIssues: open to SE through NW winds; violent gusts from the NE possible; anchor in a shallow 4-5 m for the best holding in sand; it was possible to go stern-to the rectangular quay on the north side (pin). Strong northerlies bring an uncomfortable swell -- instead of lying at right angles, point the bow out towards the sea. Tinosecret: anchoring for small boats at the little harbour; beware N/NW winds. Several tavernas and a bar ashore. Walk 2 km uphill to Ysternia village.

Best for

Lunch stop and marble villages on the SW coast

Season

Settled weather; gusty in NE winds
