Kastro Anchorage (Sifnos)

36° 58.6′ N · 24° 44.7′ E

A small bay below the cliff-top village of Kastro on the east coast, once the island's medieval port. You can swim under the Seven Martyrs chapel and climb straight up into Kastro.

Practical

SailingIssues: exposed to N to SE winds, so use it in westerlies or calm weather. Good holding in sand and shingle, but avoid weed. Anchor close to the rocks south of the beach with a line ashore, or lay a second anchor between submerged rocks. Some charts misplace features here; SailingIssues found its Eagleray plotter showed the correct position. Remains of the medieval port lie near Seralia beach, where the Chrysopigi icon is landed by fishing boat on Ascension Day (municipality). Wikivoyage lists Seralia's seasonal fish restaurant. If it is too rough to anchor, visit Kastro by road from Kamares.
