Ancient Theatre of Thorikos (Lavrio)

37° 44.3′ N · 24° 3.2′ E

One of the oldest theatres in Greece, c. 525–480 BC, cut into Velatouri hill at the ancient mining deme of Thorikos. Its unusual elongated shape sits above an ancient industrial quarter of ore workshops.

Practical

Thorikos had Mycenaean tholos tombs (15th century BC), an 'Industrial Quarter' of ore-washing and smithing workshops, and a Doric double-stoa temple of Demeter and Kore. About 2.7 km north of the Lavrio yacht quay (distance derived from coordinates), so take a short taxi or a hot walk. Visiting hours not verified; check locally.
