Port Bourayne Cyclone Refuge
16° 46.3′ S · 151° 1.7′ W
Port Bourayne, the deep, nearly enclosed bay between Huahine Nui and Huahine Iti, which the official 2025 brief describes as very protected and considered a cyclone shelter.
Practical
Position is the OpenStreetMap 'Port Bourayne' bay label. Day-to-day use is through ZMRs Bourayne 2 and 3 and Tio (3 boats each, 48 h) and the Bourayne yacht circles. In a cyclone emergency, the 2025 arrêté waives the ZMR limits for force majeure. Plan well ahead anyway: the bay is small and fills up. Watch Météo-France Polynésie warnings (VHF 16 announcement, broadcast on VHF 13). There are no shops at the bay; Fare is the nearest supply point.
