L'Ancre d'Avapehi Dive

16° 43.5′ S · 151° 2.9′ W · approximate

A sand-bottom dive in the Avapeihi Pass area between the north and south reefs, known for its garden-eel field, green morays, turtles, rays, schooling bigeye trevally and barracuda, and leopard rays.

Practical

Approx: Mahana Dive places it in the Avapehi Pass area, so the pin is the OSM pass node 'Te Ava Pēhi'. Depth 9–27 m, Level 1 / Open Water minimum (Mahana Dive). Pass current and visibility vary a lot, and swell plus current can make Avapeihi dives too hard for beginners (Pacific Blue Adventure). Dive only with an operator: diving is banned inside ZMRs, and anchoring in passes is banned.

Best for

Garden eels and pelagics at the pass
