Polynesia's great outrigger-canoe race starts at the Fare quay and runs about 80 miles over three days through Raiatea and Taha'a to the finish on Matira Beach, Bora Bora.
Practical
Position: the Hawaiki Nui Va'a memorial stele at the Fare waterfront (OSM). 2026 edition: 28-30 October (Tahiti Tourisme). Expect a packed town, crowded anchorages and support boats on the Raiatea crossing. Avoid crossing the race course on start morning and book any ZMR early.
