Vaipaee Village and Mairie (Ua Huka)
8° 55.7′ S · 139° 34.6′ W
Ua Huka's main village, about a mile up a pleasant, flat valley road from the anchorage. It has the mairie, post office, infirmary and school, three small stores and a beautiful carved church.
Practical
Coordinate from Wikipedia. Mairie (Migration, Jan 2023): on the left on the way out of town, just before the post office. Phone 40 91 60 26. Hours 6:30am-2:30pm, Fridays until 1:30pm. Call or visit first to make sure the museum will be open. Post office available (2018). Ua Huka is not a port of entry; Noonsite says report to the gendarmerie on arrival as a courtesy. Hitchhiking around the island works well (2022). Name note: since December 2023 the island is also officially referred to as Ua Huna (southern Marquesan dialect), so newer signs and documents may use that name.
