Ua Huka Ultramarine Lorikeet (Pihiti)
8° 55.3′ S · 139° 34.0′ W · approximate
The ultramarine lorikeet (pihiti) is a tiny, critically endangered blue-and-white parrot, one of Ua Huka's endemic landbirds. The island is its last stronghold.
Practical
Coordinate approximate: between the two mapped positions for the arboretum (Wikipedia, OpenStreetMap). Jacaranda (Oct 2015) called the botanical garden 'the best chance to see the rare lorikeet' and saw one. Wikipedia lists it among Ua Huka's critically endangered endemic birds. Look in flowering and fruiting trees in the early morning. Don't use playback, and keep pets aboard, because introduced predators are the main threat.
