Tuheiava Pass Dive (Tikehau)

15° 0.5′ S · 148° 16.7′ W

Tikehau's only pass and its signature dive, a drift with grey and blacktip sharks, tuna, barracuda, schooling fish and sometimes dolphins.

Practical

Coordinate is the Passe Tuheiava node in OpenStreetMap. About 30 minutes by boat from the village, so Tuamotu Plongee runs it as a two-dive morning trip (17,000 XPF for a double dive, 2024 rates). The pass is 150 m wide and 4-8 m deep; current can run 5-8 kt on a strong ebb and slack is brief, so dive it with an operator, not from your own dinghy. Cruiser reviews are mixed: two boats (2018, 2019) found the pass and lagoon less interesting than Rangiroa or Fakarava South. Operators also offer dolphin watching at the outer edge of the pass.
