Taiohae Waterfall Walk

8° 53.7′ S · 140° 6.3′ W · approximate

A gentle 2-3 hour return walk up the river valley behind town to the small waterfall you can see from the anchorage, which is Taiohae's water source.

Practical

Position approx: plotted in the valley north of town where the falls are visible from the anchorage; estimated, not surveyed. Directions (compendium 2018-2020): head to the west end of town, right at Magasin Celine (opposite the marae/tiki site), up to the 'Y' and turn right, take the dirt road right at the next 'Y', at the third 'Y' go right downhill, past the water treatment plant, cross the stream and follow the large raised steel pipe about 1/4 mile to the base. A 'private' sign was posted but the gate was open (2020). No swimming: the water intake is just below the falls.

Best for

An easy morning leg-stretch after the crossing
