Taiohae Water and Mairie Fees
8° 54.6′ S · 140° 6.1′ W · approximate
Visiting yachts in Taiohae pay the mairie (town hall) for rubbish collection and water access, and need to know which taps are actually drinkable.
Practical
Position approx: plotted at the Wikipedia/GeoHack coordinate for Taiohae village (8°54'35"S 140°06'05"W); use the walking directions to find the building. The mairie is on the main road, right-hand side, across from the artisan market (tel +689 40 91 03 60, 2020). Fees: Noonsite (May 2026) lists 1,050 XPF/week for rubbish disposal plus a tourist tax of 50 XPF per person per day, and elsewhere quotes 1,500 XPF/week; the compendium (2022) had 750 XPF/month each for trash and water. Ask at the mairie and keep the receipt (10% off at Nuku Tai Nui Marine). Water: quay and municipal taps are not drinking water. Noonsite lists three free potable faucets: the parking lot by the school up the road from the bank, the road to the hardware store, and the waterfront road just past the Catholic church. Better still, fill jugs at Daniel's Bay (5 nm west) or Controleur Bay (5 nm east). Sort rubbish; paper and cardboard go to landfill; keep batteries and oil for Tahiti if heading there.
