16° 2.1′ S · 142° 28.3′ W · approximate

Raroia's small, reasonably stocked shop in a house down a dirt lane, run by English-speaking Gerard and Raya: basics, beer, wine, rum, frozen goods and a little produce after the ship.

Practical

Approximate: Garumaoa (Ngarumaoa) village is on the west rim about 1.5 nm south of the pass and north of the airport (16.0469S / 142.4769W, French Wikipedia). The position is interpolated between the 'inside the pass' waypoint (16°01.0134S / 142°27.1706W) and the airport; no source gives a village waypoint, so confirm on satellite imagery. Directions (Ari B, May 2020): from the harbor go straight down the main road about 100 m and look for the Hinano sign down a small dirt road to the right. Tel +689 87 30 14 27. Sells cooking gas (2020). Accepted euros or US dollars when necessary (Freeirie, April 2023). Errantries (2015): 'no sign pointing to it.' The commune lists 2 magasins and 1 snack-bar (2024). The ship calls about every 3 weeks; no bakery. Please don't pre-order via shops or the ship, which can strip the islanders' own supply (Grace of Longstone, 2021). There is no bakery on Raroia (Jacaranda, 2016); bring flour and yeast. The second magasin and the single snack-bar listed by the commune are not named in any source, so ask in the village.
