Motu Anakee Anchorage (Hiva Oa)
9° 48.8′ S · 139° 2.6′ W
A former fair-weather anchorage behind the islet at the mouth of Atuona Bay, clear-watered and visited by mantas, but no longer a legal overnight stop.
Practical
Position from a March 2016 cruiser report: 09°48.7892'S 139°02.5684'W, 45 ft (14 m) sand with some rocks. Closer to the motu is mostly rock and live coral; stay in 10 m or more. The usual E-SE swell rolls straight in; it was pleasant only in summer NW swell, and very gusty in a westerly blow. LEGAL STATUS: it is not one of the ZMRs in Arrêté 384 CM (2026), so anchoring a vessel with accommodation here is now prohibited. Visit by dinghy from Tahauku instead.

Dinghy visit only since 2026
