Eastern Makemo Motu Anchorage

16° 39.3′ S · 143° 23.5′ W

The southeast corner of the lagoon, at the end of the easternmost long motu, where a little beach and the trees block some of the wind; charter catamarans hid here from a howling east wind.

Practical

Waypoint 16°39.3S / 143°23.5W (Soggy Paws, July 2010). Protection is from the east only, via the motu; long fetch from other directions. Expect to thread bommies on the 10+ nm run from the village; Shindig (June 2017) found several uncharted bommies on the East Pass to East corner leg. Go with a bow lookout and handheld VHF, sun behind you.

Best for
