Avatoru Village Anchorage (Rangiroa)

14° 57.0′ S · 147° 42.0′ W

An open roadstead off Avatoru, Rangiroa's main village near the western pass, useful for a quick provisioning stop or for entering and leaving through Avatoru Pass.

Practical

Position 14°57.031'S 147°42.017'W in 22 m of mostly sand (Asolare, 2016). Exposed to SE winds and pitchy; one crew who stopped in settled weather found it 'full of coral and very exposed'. To reach the small Avatoru harbour by dinghy, go around the south buoy to the west and follow the short marked channel; the approach is choppy and affected by the pass current. Do not anchor in Avatoru Pass itself: Noonsite warns of an underwater cable. In an emergency or to load something heavy you can tie up for a few hours at the municipal dock in the pass; contact the mairie first to check no cargo ship is due.

Best for

Day stop for Avatoru shops, gendarmerie clearance and the winery

Season
