Aratika is part of the UNESCO Fakarava Biosphere Reserve (1977, renewed 2006 and 2017), with two classified marine protected areas inside the atoll.
Practical
Coordinate is the atoll centre (OpenStreetMap). Arrêté n° 950 CM (18 July 2016) classifies two maritime areas in Aratika as category IV (habitat/species management) and category VI (managed resources) protected areas. Maps are in the Marine Protected Areas guide. Use the yellow public moorings where available (the mayor prefers it, 2020), otherwise anchor only on sand with floated chain. No fishing in core zones, no coral or shell collecting. No visitor fee is documented.
