Vis Town Harbour (Vis)

43° 3.7′ N · 16° 11.1′ E

The island's main port sits at the head of a long, deep bay on the north coast, with the ferry quay, the old town and the Greek ruins of Issa all on the waterfront. It is the usual first night on Vis and the best place to stock up. The west quay (Luka) was rebuilt in 2016 and is run as a town marina with laid lines.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM marina point on the west (Luka) quay. Med-moor bow or stern-to on laid lines; the Luka quay has about 60 berths with water, power and toilets, depth 2-4 m. There is no booking: in July and August be in by 2 pm or 3 pm. Reception Luka +385 21 718 746. Keep well off the quay: ferry and catamaran wake runs along the wall. Anchoring is not allowed in the inner harbour; if the quay and buoys are full, anchor at least 40 m off the shore further out. The bay is open to the north-north-east; moderate bura is fine, strong bura or maestral sends a chop in. Fuel at the INA station near the ferry quay; supermarkets on the front. Croatia's 2025 navigation rules apply here: no anchoring within 150 m of a natural beach, boats under 15 m keep at least 50 m off the shore when under way, and tenders stay within 500 m of the mother boat except when running to the nearest landing.

Best for

First night on Vis, provisioning, fuel, and an evening walk to Kut

Season

Apr-Oct; full by mid-afternoon Jul-Aug; uncomfortable in strong bura or maestral
