Stupica Vela (Žirje)
43° 38.0′ N · 15° 41.4′ E
The best-known anchorage on Žirje: a deep bay on the south-east of the island with clear water and the ruins of a late-Roman fortress on the ridge above. A konoba runs the buoys and cooks fish and meat with no menu.
Practical
Coordinate is the bay (OSM node 928137191). Buoys in about 8-10 m; a charge is collected (about 32 buoys in 2012, versus 20 on the official list). Well sheltered from the NW maestral and from northerly winds, but open to the south, so leave if jugo is forecast. Konoba Stupica on the shore; book in high season. Walk up to the fortress ruins for the view.
Best for
A night far out in the islands with a hilltop walk
Season
Jun-Sep; not in southerly wind
