Okuklje

42° 43.6′ N · 17° 40.2′ E

A tiny, almost enclosed bay on Mljet's north-east coast, hard to spot from the sea, with a few houses and restaurants round the water. It is one of the best all-weather shelters on the island.

Practical

Coordinate is the bay (OSM 'Luka Okuklje'). Approach by the light on the point west of Rt Stoba, keep to the middle of the entrance and pass north of the rock marked by a beacon. Restaurant quays and buoys (free if you eat ashore) and a little room to anchor west of the beacon in about 5 m on sand and rock; make sure the anchor has set. Shelter from almost all directions except strong southerlies. The jetty on the south side has power and wifi; the NE quay is crowded with local boats. Fills up early in Jun–Aug; if full, go on to Prožura or Sobra. No fuel and little rubbish collection, so take your rubbish away.

Best for

A snug night in any summer wind
