Waisaladup Anchorage (West Holandes)

9° 35.7′ N · 78° 46.4′ W · approximate

Waisaladup is one of the westernmost palm islets of the Holandes Cays, beside Holandes Cay itself, on the inside of the long Holandes barrier reef that gives the group its clean water and good snorkelling.

Practical

Coordinate approximate and derived: about 100 m SSW of the Waisaladup islet outline in OpenStreetMap (way 620728685), checked to be in open water; no published cruiser waypoint, depth or holding for this islet was found. Note that OpenStreetMap shows a second islet named Waisaladup beside Green Island (9.4732, -78.6364): confirm which one a local or guide means. Approach the West Holandes from Chichime or the Lemmons inside the outer reef with high sun (see the Holandes Cays Western Approach passage); At their nearby central Holandes anchorage off Wichubuala Cay (09°35.473'N 078°45.415'W, 9 m sand) Spirit of Argo found the reef steep-to, with at least two shallow sandy passages coming out of it, a big shipwreck on the outer reef, and a spot fine in the steady winter trades but not in summer when the wind can shift right round (2016). Veggie boats and Guna canoes selling fish and molas visit the Holandes regularly.
