Starfish Point
19° 21.6′ N · 81° 16.8′ W · approximate
A shallow, sandy shore on North Sound's north-east side where hundreds of red cushion sea stars (Oreaster reticulatus) dot the seagrass in knee-deep water.
Practical
Coordinate approximate (north-east shore of North Sound near Water Cay, west of Rum Point). Cruisers recommend anchoring off Starfish Point, especially in northerly winds (2019, 2023 reports). Starfish are protected: the DoE allows only gentle handling of West Indian sea stars at Starfish Point under the Starfish Handling Guidance Notes - keep them underwater and never take one. All echinoderms (starfish, urchins, sea cucumbers, sand dollars) may never be taken in Cayman waters.
Best for
Kid-friendly wading with sea stars
