Something Special (Dive Site)

12° 9.7′ N · 68° 17.0′ W

A reef right at the Harbour Village Marina breakwater, a short dinghy hop from the yacht moorings: follow the wall of murals in and the reef north to the marina entrance and back - garden eels, frogfish and huge parrotfish schools.

Practical

Depth 2-30 m (bonaire.com). Rocky entry over sharp coral - wear boots; free parking about a minute's walk from the entry, which is beside a wall of murals (bonaire.com). Navigation is simple: reef north to the marina, return the same way; if current runs strongly north, dive south instead. Currents change near the marina mouth, especially at night - stay out of the marina channel (boat traffic). Shore dive: no yacht anchoring anywhere in the Marine Park. From a yacht, come by dinghy and tie to the yellow STINAPA public mooring (2 consecutive hours max, boats up to 13 m, moor by the bow; STINAPA), or drive. Nature fee required (US$40 per calendar year per bonaire.com); no gloves, no touching or feeding, reef-safe sunscreen; an orientation dive is mandatory on arrival and an SMB is recommended (STINAPA). Check STINAPA's SCTLD stoplight map before diving and move from green to yellow to red sites, never the reverse. Coordinate: OpenStreetMap dive-site marker; bonaire.com gives 12.1611, -68.2833.
