Cockburn Harbour Anchorage (South Caicos)

21° 29.3′ N · 71° 32.1′ W · approximate

The best natural harbour in the islands, off the sleepy fishing capital of Cockburn Harbour — entered from deep Turks Island Passage between Dove Cay and Long Cay.

Practical

Coordinate approximate: between the Seaview Marina dock and Dove Cay off the old marina; confirm on a chart. marinas.com (dated) describes a 16–20-ft entrance between Dove Cay and Long Cay and good holding even in blows; noforeignland reviewers describe mediocre holding over thin sand on limestone and some swell working in from the channel. Depths ease to 6–10 ft outside the harbour and as little as 3 ft at the docks. Dinghy to Seaview Marina or the public dinghy dock used by dive boats at the east end. Fuel at Seaview; groceries at Seaview Supermarket and Johnny's; water by truck (ask at the supermarket). Few repairs — handle problems on Provo.
