Car Pile (Oswaldo's Drop Off & Pier Baai Reef)

12° 5.2′ N · 68° 54.1′ W

A wall dive east of Willemstad where 1940s cars and trucks were piled down the reef slope, now encrusted with sponges and visited by larger pelagic fish.

Practical

The car pile starts at about 45 ft (14 m), with a barge at about 100 ft (30 m) and vehicles continuing deeper; it lies between Oswaldo's Drop Off (house reef of the Sunscape resort, shore entry for hotel guests only) and Pier Baai Reef, which non-guests can shore-dive from Pierbaai beach. There is no mooring ball, so it is not a regular boat-dive site (Curaçao Tourist Board). Inside the Curaçao underwater park - no anchoring on the reef. Coordinate: Curaçao Tourist Board map pin.
