Bottle Creek Lagoon (North Caicos, shoal-draft only)
21° 53.7′ N · 71° 54.7′ W
A five-square-mile neon-turquoise lagoon between North Caicos and the East Bay Islands, rivalled only by Chalk Sound for colour, with bonefish on the flats and Bottle Creek village on the shore.
Practical
Shoal-draft and dinghy water only: Visit TCI says the lagoon is mostly shallow sand and silt, suitable for kayaks, paddleboards and small shallow-draft power boats. It connects south to the Caicos Bank through the 5-mile Bottle Creek Mouth channel and north to the ocean through small channels between the cays. BoatTEST rates the whole northeastern bank along North, Middle and East Caicos as shoal-draft only, so keelboats should visit by car from Bellefield Landing instead. Part of the lagoon lies in East Bay Islands National Park: no fishing (lionfish excepted) and no conch or lobster. Ashore in Bottle Creek: the only ATM on North and Middle Caicos, one gas station (fill up before driving to Middle Caicos, which has no convenient fuel), Dard's and Tee's groceries and Miss B's restaurant. Big Blue Collective keeps kayaks on North Caicos.
Best for
Kayaking, bonefishing and kiting by shallow-draft boat or from shore
