Stargate Blue Hole

24° 6.1′ N · 77° 33.0′ W · approximate

South Andros's famous inland blue hole, named by cave pioneer Rob Palmer: a 340-ft central shaft with passages running north and south, Lucayan remains below the cave mouth, and the 'Great Crack'.

Practical

Position approximate: the bahamas.com listing coordinate (Queen's Highway, Long Bay Cays), which may be a settlement-level pin; Wikipedia only says it is on South Andros. Entry is about a 100-ft walk from the road, a giant stride from the rim into water about 20 ft below (Blue World TV). National Geographic: a hydrogen-sulphide layer about 50 ft down, North Passage about 1,300 ft, South Passage about 2,500 ft with the main line ending at 130 ft. Strictly a guided cave/cavern dive for trained, equipped divers; the entrance is on private family land. Small Hope Bay Lodge has guided dives here (fly or ferry down). Not a snorkel or swim stop.
