Spring Point (Acklins) Airport and settlement

22° 26.5′ N · 73° 58.3′ W

Spring Point, mid-way down Acklins' west coast, is the island's capital and population centre, with the Bahamasair airport (IATA AXP) linking Acklins to Colonel Hill and Nassau; the mailboat sometimes calls here.

Practical

Airport position from OurAirports and Wikipedia (N 22°26'31" W 073°58'15"): runway 13/31, 5,000 by 150 ft asphalt; Bahamasair to Colonel Hill and Nassau. Settlement centre at about 22.4323, -73.9804 (OpenStreetMap). The west-coast shore here faces the Bight of Acklins and is shallow: Waterway Guide's Spring Point anchorage (N 22°28.000' W 073°58.500') is in 5-8 ft only and open west through north-east, so it suits shoal-draft boats in settled weather. Acklins is not a port of entry.
