New Bight groceries and bakery
24° 17.8′ N · 75° 25.7′ W · approximate
New Bight Market, a large and well-stocked grocery with a liquor store next door, plus Olive's Bakery for coconut tarts and fresh loaves: the best provisioning on Cat Island.
Practical
Coordinate is the dinghy-landing beach given in the ActiveCaptain New Bight listing (24°17.800'N 75°25.700'W), in front of three small pink buildings (a closed resort). Walk past them to the dirt road, go 3 blocks across the mangrove bridge to the highway, turn left, and the market is 2 blocks on the left (about 1 mile north of the BaTelCo tower). Cruisers compare it with Thompson Bay and say it is better stocked than George Town but a little dearer. Olive's Bakery is just north of the police station. Mrs Paula Roma sold fresh vegetables 3 houses to the right from the same path (2017). The grocery also rented cars (2015-2016) and was recommended over the gas station. Hitchhiking is common and safe-feeling, and locals often offer rides.
