Inagua National Park warden tours (BNT)

20° 57.0′ N · 73° 40.0′ W · approximate

The Bahamas National Trust warden drives visitors from Matthew Town out to the salt pans and Lake Windsor to see one of the world's largest West Indian flamingo colonies - the reason to stop at Inagua.

Practical

Coordinate is the Ministry of Tourism listing point for warden Henry Nixon (Victoria Street, Matthew Town) - the pickup is in town, not at the park. Book ahead: BNT asks visitors to confirm dates with the Inagua or Nassau office; Inagua contact Henry Nixon, Senior Park Warden, +1 (242) 464-7618; Nassau office +1 (242) 393-1317 (BNT sheet, 2020). Fees on that sheet: normal visitor $25 per person, commercial $75, student groups $10 - include park fee and warden time but not vehicle, fuel or optional gratuity (verify locally). BNT vehicles carry visitors into the park. Noonsite (2012): pickup at the beach at 8:00 am, about a two-hour tour by SUV. Best November to June; peak flamingo numbers in the March-May breeding season. Henry Nixon also offers snorkelling and kayak tours with transport. Other certified bird guides listed by the Ministry of Tourism include warden Randolph 'Casper' Burrows and Tara Lindo.
