Harbour Island Anchorage (off Dunmore Town)

25° 29.7′ N · 76° 38.3′ W

The main anchorage for Harbour Island, in the wide space between Valentines and Romora Bay marinas off Dunmore Town — the base for Pink Sands Beach, the clapboard lanes of 'Briland' and its restaurants.

Practical

8-12 ft; best holding in 10 ft or more as the bottom gets hard nearer shore; sand, avoid grass. Good protection N through S (the Eleuthera side), choppy in strong W winds. Lots of wakes all day from water taxis and ferries. Dinghy landing at the government dock, the fuel dock, or the covered fishermen's pier at Fort Point; Romora Bay has a floating dock for dinghies (day-visitor landing fee $25 at Romora per its website, verify). Deeper yachts anchor here and run tenders ashore. Space is tight in peak season. Reach it via the Devil's Backbone (pilot recommended) or the Harbour Mouth entrance from the Atlantic.
