Eleuthera Point Anchorage

24° 36.9′ N · 76° 8.9′ W

A scenic soft-sand anchorage tucked under Lighthouse Point, the southernmost tip of Eleuthera, used to break the passage to or from the Exumas, Little San Salvador and Cat Island; this is the Lighthouse Point anchorage (ActiveCaptain lists no separate one).

Practical

Position from the ActiveCaptain marker. From the south go straight in, watching for coral heads. Soft sand in about 8 ft (2.6 m) MLW. Good protection from north-west round to north-east; exposed to anything from south-east to south-west; rolly in a strong north-easter. A 2019 boat working in out of the swell ended up between two reefs without swing room. Arrive with plenty of light. Disney's Lookout Cay cruise pier now runs about half a mile out from shore just west of the anchorage (end at about 24.61334 N, 76.1644 W); it is not on Explorer Charts or Aquamaps, is lit by street lights along its length and shows a flashing white light at the end (ActiveCaptain, March 2025). Watch for ship and tender movements. Snorkelling at both ends of Lighthouse Beach (see Lighthouse Beach Snorkel and Lighthouse Point Snorkel).

Best for

Breaking the passage at the south tip in northerly winds
